Compression stockings are provided by a variety of organizations such as pharmacies, some foot orthotic services, medical supply companies, foot care providers and even chiropractic clinics. Compression stockings up to 20 mmHg (levels of pressure) can be purchased over the counter. A prescription is required for compression over 20 mmHg and must be properly "fitted" by a certified compression therapy fitter. If you have a prescription, it's best to call ahead to see if you need an appointment with their certified fitter.
