Service Description: Ontario Shores has recently expanded its Adolescent Program to provide youth, 12 to 18, with enhanced care and programming based on their specialized needs. Patients work in partnership with staff to learn how to manage their illness, improve their coping skills and develop the necessary tools to successfully return to the community at an optimal level of well-being. All services are provided in a caring and supportive environment that fosters independence, confidence and self-esteem and overall recovery.

Youth are referred through Durham Region Central Intake at 1.888.454.6275 or Ontario Shores Central Intake. All referrals welcome, including those outside Ontario Shores’ primary service area.

Inpatients can be referred through Durham Region Central Intake at 1.888.454.6275.

Also provides access to a Virtual Emergency Room for patients living in distant areas. Inpatients can be referred through Durham Region Central Intake at 1.888.454.6275.

Inpatient Services: 
  • Adolescent Inpatient Services - group and individual, in-person and virtual
  • Eating Disorders Unit - individual, group and family modalities offered
Outpatient Services:
  • Adolescent Day Treatment - Provides mental health and education support within a local high school to assist adolescents 14-18 years with transition into a community setting
  • Adolescent Outpatient Services - Provides 12-15 weeks of outpatient assessment and treatment for young people for mood and anxiety syndrome
  • Adolescent Eating Disorders Day Treatment - 16 week eating disorders treatment program serving 8 patients at a time Mon-Fri each week
  • Prompt Care Clinic - A one time assessment and consultation with a child and adolescent psychiatrist for the purpose of providing diagnostic and treatment recommendations that will be sent back to the referral source

Eligibility / Target Population: Adolescents 12 to 17 years of age who require individual, group or family therapy. Must have a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card. See website for eligibility criteria.
